The wind, a mischievous whisperer, tugged at the hem of Elena’s cloak as she traced the faded ink of the ancient map. They had found a quiet alcove nestled within the gnarled roots of a colossal oak, its branches reaching like skeletal fingers towards a sky painted in hues of bruised twilight. Master Eldrin, his eyes like chips of polished obsidian reflecting the flickering torchlight, sat cross-legged, his gnarled hands clasped over his walking stick. Linda, ever the picture of restless energy, was perched on a low-hanging branch, her nimble fingers idly braiding a string of wildflowers.

“The map,” Master Eldrin began, his voice a low rumble like distant thunder, “it does not merely show a destination, Elena. It reflects the journeyer.” He paused, his gaze sweeping over the intricate lines and symbols. “And sometimes, it reveals the paths we once walked, or perhaps, the paths we *tried* to walk.”

Elena looked up, a question forming on her lips. Master Eldrin’s words, as always, were like a wellspring of riddles, inviting her to delve deeper. “You speak of yourself, Master Eldrin?”
