Territory of Shadows
They enter the domain of a pack of territorial wild dogs. A tense encounter shows the dangers of the outside world and the need for caution.
The air grew heavy, thick with the scent of unfamiliar territories and the sharp tang of unease. Luna’s hackles rose, a primal warning thrumming through her veins. The familiar, comforting scent of her own woods, even as it faded, was now replaced by something wilder, more ancient, and undeniably dangerous. Beside her, Skye’s usual bouncy curiosity had been replaced by a low, attentive crouch, her ears swiveling like twin radar dishes, catching every rustle, every distant snap of a twig.
“This is it,” Luna whispered, her voice barely a breath against the encroaching silence. “The edge of the Sunken Valley.”
Skye’s gaze was fixed on the dense wall of gnarled trees ahead. “It… feels different, Luna. Like the ground itself is holding its breath.” Her usually bright eyes were shadowed with a newfound caution. The playful spirit that had characterized her for so long seemed to recede, replaced by a keen awareness of their surroundings.
