Chapter 14
The Wild Dog's Lair
They discover the heart of the wild dog territory. The alpha leader, a formidable figure, guards the path to the valley.
The air thrummed with an unseen tension, a palpable warning that prickled Luna’s fur and made the hackles on Skye’s back rise in unison. They had ventured deeper into the shadowed lands, the familiar scents of their home forest giving way to something wilder, more primal. Twisted trees, gnarled and ancient, clawed at the bruised sky, their skeletal branches interlacing to create a canopy so dense that only slivers of weak sunlight managed to pierce through. The ground beneath their paws was a treacherous carpet of decaying leaves and sharp stones, each step a deliberate act of caution.

She was a creature of the sun-dappled glades, her courage forged in the familiar embrace of her home. This alien landscape, however, gnawed at her resolve.
Skye, ever the intuitive one, nudged Luna’s flank with her nose. "It's the scent," she murmured, her golden eyes scanning the dense undergrowth. "It’s the scent of them. The wild dogs. They are close." Her voice held a quiet certainty, a knowledge that seemed to emanate from the very earth beneath her paws.
