Javier calls Marcus and Rafael to set a plan. Nia insists on staying involved. They gather at Rafael's house to coordinate with the sheriff. Javier struggles with his instincts but lets others lead. As sundown approaches, a new text reveals the threat is closer than they thought, and Javier must make a split-second decision to protect Nia's family.
Javier's thumb hovered over the call button. The phone felt heavier than it should have, like it knew what was at stake.
Nia stood beside him on the porch, her arms crossed, her eyes locked on his face. She didn't say anything else. She didn't have to.
He called Rafael first.
