The Sundown Meet
Javier drives to the gas station at sundown with Marcus and deputies hidden nearby. Cisco and his men arrive, but the confrontation takes an unexpected turn when Javier refuses to fight and the sheriff moves in. Cisco is arrested, but a final phone call reveals a new threat from California.
The clock read 5:47 when Marcus hung up with the sheriff. Javier stood by the window, watching the driveway like Cisco might materialize out of the fading light. Nia sat at the kitchen table, her coffee cold and untouched.
"Deputies are in position," Marcus said. "Two cruisers at the old feed mill, one at the gas station already. They'll stay hidden until Cisco makes a move."
"And if he doesn't make a move?" Javier asked without turning around.
