Elara’s workshop, usually a sanctuary of quiet industry, felt strangely charged. The air, once thick with the comforting scent of wool and dye, now carried a faint, electric hum, a resonance that seemed to emanate from the ancient spindle resting on her workbench. Her hands, still a little unsteady, traced the smooth, cool wood, each whorl and groove a silent question mark. The memories, like shy birds, fluttered at the edges of her mind, too fleeting to grasp. She knew, with a certainty that settled deep in her bones, that the answers she sought lay not just in the weave of her tapestries, but in the forgotten threads of her own story. And for that, she needed wisdom older than her own.

She found Elder Maeve tending her small herb garden, the late afternoon sun casting long shadows that danced with the dew-kissed leaves. Maeve’s presence was like that of a deeply rooted oak, solid and serene, her face a map of gentle wrinkles etched by time and kindness. Her eyes, the color of warm earth, held a knowing glint that always made Elara feel both seen and, at times, a little unnerved.

“Elder Maeve,” Elara began, her voice softer than she intended, “May I trouble you for a moment?”
