The chipped porcelain of the teacup felt cool against Elara’s fingertips, a small anchor in the churning sea of her thoughts. Outside, the city hummed its indifferent tune, a symphony of car horns and distant sirens that usually offered a comforting, if chaotic, backdrop to her life.
