The air in Dr. Finch’s study felt thick, heavier than usual, laden with the scent of old paper and something else, something sharp and metallic that Elara couldn’t quite place. It clung to the velvet upholstery, to the polished mahogany of his desk, even to the steam rising from the teacup clutched in her trembling hands. She’d come here, to the heart of her perceived sanctuary, with a truth she could no longer keep contained. The weight of it pressed against her chest, a physical ache that rivaled the phantom throb in her nose.

"Alistair," she began, her voice a fragile thread weaving through the quiet room, "I… I think I know what happened."

Dr. Finch leaned back in his leather chair, his usual gentle smile firmly in place, though his eyes, a startling shade of grey, seemed to hold a flicker of something unreadable. He nodded, a gesture of patient encouragement. "Elara, you’ve been making such remarkable progress. Tell me, what have you discovered?"
