Jannah, tending to the small patch of herbs that clung to the rocky slope, felt it first – a subtle tremor beneath her bare feet, like a giant sigh from the sleeping earth. She paused, her hand hovering over a cluster of wild thyme, her brow furrowed. The birds, usually a boisterous chorus from dawn till dusk, had fallen silent, their absence a chattering void.
