Chapter 18
The Truth Unveiled

Thorne’s guttural roar had faded, swallowed by the vastness of this hidden place. My breath hitched, a ragged sound in the stillness. The shrine, carved into the living rock, pulsed with a soft, ethereal light, the carvings on its walls seeming to shift and breathe. It wasn't gold. It wasn't jewels. It was… life. He was a man consumed, a guardian twisted into a jailer by generations of fear, by a duty he understood only as possession and exclusion. His family had guarded this place, yes, but they had misunderstood its purpose, mistaking its sanctity for a prize.
"You don't understand," Thorne rasped, his voice hoarse, a desperate plea clawing its way out. "It's not for you. It's… it's ours to protect."
