The air inside the ruins was thick with the scent of salt and something ancient, like dust from stars. It clung to my clothes, to my hair, and settled deep within my lungs. I traced my fingers over the cool, smooth stone of a fallen pillar, imagining the hands that had shaped it, the lives that had bustled around it. This wasn't just a city; it was a whisper from the past, a story waiting to be read. My heart, usually so steady when I was charting the familiar currents, thrummed with a different kind of excitement, a blend of awe and a creeping unease.

My lantern cast dancing shadows as I moved deeper into the central chamber. The walls here were covered in carvings, not the simple patterns of the surface dwellers, but intricate tapestries of images. They depicted beings unlike any I had ever seen, graceful figures with flowing fins and eyes that seemed to hold the light of distant suns. And everywhere, woven into the very fabric of the carvings, was the Lumina. It pulsed in the stone, a memory of its former brilliance, flowing in rivers and shimmering around the figures, giving them life.

Near a collapsed alcove, half-buried in pearlescent sand, I found them: scrolls. Not the brittle, dried-out kind you might expect, but preserved in some kind of luminous, gelatinous substance that kept them supple and vibrant. My hands trembled as I carefully lifted one. The material felt strange, cool and yielding, and when I unfurled it, the Lumina embedded within it flared gently, illuminating the markings.
