Pushing Back the Night

The last chant left my lips, a whisper against the roaring symphony of the ocean's heart. For a moment, there was only the void, the palpable pressure of the encroaching gloom pressing in on all sides, a suffocating blanket threatening to smother the last spark of Lumina. My own breath hitched in my chest, a tiny, fragile sound in the face of such immensity. I squeezed my eyes shut, picturing the Lumina not as a fading ember, but as the blazing sun of our world, teeming with life, vibrant and eternal. I poured every ounce of my will, every flicker of hope, every memory of its gentle glow into that mental image.

Then, a tremor. Not the violent shudder of a collapsing wave, but a deep, resonant hum that vibrated through the very water around me, through my bones, through my soul. It was the Lumina, stirring. A faint, almost imperceptible shimmer began to bloom at the edges of my vision, a timid sunrise against the suffocating night.
