The Coming Shadow
Signs of the encroaching darkness begin to appear. Lumina flickers in distant regions, and a chilling silence spreads through once vibrant waters.
The Lumina, usually a constant, comforting glow that painted the ocean floor with shifting hues of sapphire and emerald, began to behave strangely. It wasn't a sudden, dramatic change, but a subtle, unsettling dimming, like a candle flame about to be extinguished. I noticed it first in the shallower reefs, where the Lumina usually pulsed with the energy of a thousand dancing fireflies. Now, it merely flickered, hesitant, like a shy child in a crowd.
My heart sank with each dimming pulse. I had spent so many hours mapping these currents, charting the ebb and flow of the Lumina, and this was unlike anything I had ever recorded. It was as if the very lifeblood of our world was beginning to drain away.
"Are you seeing this, Echo?" I whispered, my voice barely audible above the gentle swish of my tail. Echo, the wise old sea turtle who had become my constant companion since we met in the Whispering Depths, blinked his ancient eyes slowly. He nudged my hand with his rough snout, a silent acknowledgment of the unease that was settling over us.
