A Dog's Delightful Detour

In the park, the footprints lead them to a large bush. Mia, remembering her fear of dogs, stays back slightly. Sam, full of excitement, peeks under the bush. There, they find the giant lollipop, slightly licked, but mostly intact, next to a happy, wagging tail.

The park was a symphony of rustling leaves and chirping birds, a far cry from the hushed, anxious atmosphere of Mr. Fitzwilliam’s candy shop. Leo, Mia, and Sam pushed through the park gates, their eyes scanning the ground with a shared intensity. The faint, dusty imprints they’d found near the shop, the ones that had seemed so promising, were now their only lead. They followed them, weaving between picnic blankets and skipping children, a determined trio on a mission.

“They’re getting fainter,” Mia observed, her brow furrowed as she pointed to a particularly smudged mark near a flowerbed. Her logical mind, always attuned to detail, worried about the trail going cold. “Are we sure they came this way?”

Leo, ever the optimist and the de facto leader, knelt to get a closer look. “They have to be, Mia. Look, this one is clearer. It’s like… someone was dragging their feet here.” He traced the outline with a finger. “And see this little scuff mark? It’s deeper on this side.”
