The air in Gary hung thick and heavy, a perpetual twilight cast by the skeletal remains of industry and the ever-present haze of desperation. Tonight, however, Shade was a man adrift, a solitary ship sailing against a tide of his own making. He found Detective Ray Miller hunched over a diner counter, the fluorescent lights glinting off his weary face.
