Chapter 13
Confrontation in the Glade
Elara reaches the artifact's location, only to be confronted by Silas and his followers. A tense standoff ensues as they demand the artifact's surrender.
The air in the glade hung heavy, thick with the scent of damp earth and pine needles. Sunlight, usually so cheerful in this secluded pocket of the forest, seemed to struggle to pierce the dense canopy, casting long, distorted shadows that danced like specters. Elara’s heart thrummed a frantic rhythm against her ribs, a drumbeat of fear and a strange, defiant courage. This was it. The place Julian had alluded to, the place where the artifact lay hidden.

As she pushed aside a final curtain of ferns, the glade opened before her. It was smaller than she’d imagined, a natural amphitheater cradled by ancient trees. In the center, nestled amongst moss-covered stones, was a pedestal. And upon it, bathed in a faint, ethereal glow, was a small, intricately carved wooden box. It pulsed with a soft light, a silent beacon in the encroaching gloom.
