Chapter 12
The air in the woods hung thick and still, a tangible blanket that seemed to press in on Elara from all sides. Sunlight struggled to pierce the dense canopy, dappling the forest floor in shifting patterns of emerald and gold that danced like nervous spirits. Each rustle of leaves, each snap of a twig underfoot, sent a jolt through her, a phantom echo of Julian’s gentle touch or the hurried rhythm of his footsteps as he’d once walked these very paths.
