The afternoon sun, a gentle caress on the terracotta tiles of the courtyard, seemed to hold its breath. Liam sat across from Javier, the murmur of the city a distant hum, a comforting counterpoint to the quiet intensity of their conversation. Javier, his hands gnarled like ancient olive branches, cradled a steaming mug of tea, his gaze steady and kind. He saw the flicker of longing in those same eyes when she spoke, ever so briefly, of the world beyond. He had felt it too, that yearning for something profound, something that resonated deeper than the superficial. And he had found it, he was sure of it, in Elara.
