Silas's Gambit

Silas, sensing Elara and Kael were close to a breakthrough, intensified his efforts. He attempted to seize control of the fading residual energies, creating dangerous pockets of elemental instability.

The air in the ruined temple crackled with a malevolent energy, a discordant hum that vibrated in Elara’s teeth. It wasn’t the clean, vibrant thrum of earth, water, fire, or air she remembered, but something twisted and hungry. Silas. He was here, and he was messing with what little remained.

Kael cursed beside her, his hand already reaching for the hilt of his sword. “He’s trying to bottle it. The stray sparks, the echoes. He thinks he can hoard what’s left.”

Elara felt a knot of dread tighten in her stomach. They had been so close, so agonizingly close, to deciphering the last of the ancient glyphs that spoke of the Guardian’s true intent. The glyphs hinted at a cosmic balance, a delicate equilibrium that the elements, if wielded unchecked, could shatter. Silas, with his insatiable greed, was the antithesis of balance.
