The air in the chamber crackled, not with the familiar hum of elemental energy, but with a raw, untamed force that clawed at the edges of reality. Kael gritted his teeth, his knuckles white against the hilt of his sword. This wasn't like the trials they’d faced before, those carefully constructed tests of will and knowledge. This felt… organic. Dangerous. A phantom limb of power thrumming beneath his skin, a sensation both familiar and utterly alien.

Elara stood beside him, her brow furrowed in concentration. She’d been the one to decipher the inscription that led them here, to this place of forgotten trials, a place where the very fabric of elemental existence seemed to be unraveling. "The inscription spoke of a 'severed thread'," she murmured, her voice barely audible above the rising tempest within the chamber. "A connection broken, a power unleashed."

Kael didn't reply. His focus was elsewhere, pulled by an invisible current that tugged at his very core. A memory, sharp and agonizing, pierced through the present chaos. The scent of burning wood, the screams of his kin, the chilling silence where the roaring inferno of his own fire should have been. He’d been a boy then, barely old enough to wield a spark, and in his panic, his nascent power had turned inward, a destructive vortex that consumed everything, leaving only ash and his own shattered spirit.
