The Archivist’s archive was less a place and more a feeling. It wasn't a hushed, dusty room filled with towering shelves, as Elara had half-expected. Instead, it was a quiet eddy within the bustling currents of the city, a space where time seemed to pool and slow. Sunlight, filtered through an ancient, ivy-laden window, cast dappled patterns on worn wooden floors. The air itself hummed with a gentle, almost imperceptible vibration, as if holding its breath, listening.

The Archivist, whose name Elara still hadn’t quite grasped, moved with a serene grace that reminded her of a willow tree swaying in a soft breeze. They wore layers of muted, woven fabrics, and their hands, long and delicate, seemed to possess a knowledge of their own, tracing the spines of books, arranging small, smooth stones on a low table, or gently turning the pages of a brittle, leather-bound volume.

“You feel it, don’t you?” the Archivist’s voice was a low murmur, like pebbles rolling in a stream. They didn’t look at Elara directly, their gaze fixed on a delicate, botanical illustration in a book open before them. “The resonance. The quiet hum of stories waiting to be remembered.”
