Chapter 27
Poem # 7 by Amy Kathryn Allen
My heart beats gladly as I see the gerds of the Prairie flourish,to see the great birds fly in the sky, every fish in the rivers, oceans, lakes and streams the animals of the mountains and plains I thank thee. Fir every fruitd nut, herb and vegetable I thank thee Each season and phase of the moon I thank thee
The wind, a restless whisper across the plains, carried the scent of sagebrush and distant rain. Elara, her fingers tracing the worn leather of her saddle, felt a familiar ache in her bones, a testament to countless miles traversed. The Pony Express riders were ghosts in this land, fleeting sparks against the vast canvas of sky and earth. But today, the land itself spoke to her, not in the urgent rhythm of hooves, but in a quiet, profound gratitude.
She paused her horse, letting the animal graze on the sweet, dry grasses. The sun, a molten orb, began its slow descent, painting the clouds in hues of apricot and rose. Elara closed her eyes, breathing deeply.
*My heart beats gladly as I see the herds of the prairie flourish,* She saw them then, not in her mind's eye alone, but in the very air around her – the phantom thundering of bison, the graceful sweep of antelope across the horizon.
