Blessed Nakomis, Mother of Hiawatha, watch over and protect my family and village elders as my braves set out for war.

Oh, Great Spirit, Whose eyes are the eagle’s keen sight, Whose breath is the wind through the sage, Whose heart beats in the mountain’s might, Grant strength to the warriors, As they ride into the fray. Protect the fragile lives, The elders who hold wisdom’s sway, The babes in their cradles, The hearth fires burning low. Let the spirit of the wolf guide their paws, The swiftness of the deer, their flow.

Nakomis, gentle watcher, Whose love enfolds our every need, Guard our homes from the fire’s rage, From the hungry, tearing greed. Let the wisdom of the ancients, Flow through our warriors’ minds, To strike with purpose, swift and true, Leaving no one behind. May the courage of the bear, Arm their hearts against all fear, And the cunning of the fox, Keep their purpose ever clear.
