The water, once a playful dance of light, had begun to churn with an unsettling energy. Lily, her heart still thrumming with the wonder of the coral sanctuary, felt a prickle of unease as she watched the smaller sea creatures. They were usually a kaleidoscope of darting colours and joyful movements, but now they huddled closer, their fins trembling. Tiny seahorses, usually so bold, clung to swaying anemones, their pearly bodies dulled by the rising tension. Schools of glittering fish, which had earlier swirled around her like living confetti, now pressed themselves against the vibrant coral formations, their scales reflecting a nervous shimmer. Even the usually stoic starfish seemed to have retracted their arms, their velvety surfaces pressed flat against the seabed.

A low rumble, a sound that vibrated not just through the water but through Lily’s very bones, echoed through the sanctuary. The gentle currents that had lulled her to sleep now swirled with a more insistent, less friendly rhythm. Lily’s gaze fell upon a cluster of delicate, bell-shaped jellyfish, their translucent bodies pulsing with a faint, ethereal light. They were usually a breathtaking spectacle, drifting with an almost balletic grace, but now their light seemed to flicker, their movements jerky and uncertain. A tiny, iridescent crab, no bigger than Lily’s thumb, scuttled from beneath a mushroom coral, its eyes wide with a fear that Lily understood all too well.

“Are they alright?” Lily whispered, her voice barely a ripple in the growing commotion. She turned to the old sea turtle, his wise, ancient eyes fixed on the shifting currents. His shell, a mosaic of time and experience, seemed to absorb the unease, yet his calm presence was a small anchor in the gathering storm.
