The air in the abandoned observatory crackled with an energy that felt both ancient and alien. Dust motes danced in the slivers of light that pierced the grime-caked dome, illuminating the skeletal remains of celestial tracking equipment. Anya Sharma, her heart a frantic drum against her ribs, traced the intricate, glowing circuitry etched into the obsidian floor. This was it. Elara Vance’s final, desperate gambit.

“Are you certain about this, Anya?” Kaelen’s voice, usually a low murmur, was tight with apprehension. They stood near the entrance, their silhouette a stark contrast against the faint glow emanating from the floor. “Even with Elara’s notes, this… this is a leap into the void.”

Anya didn’t look up. Her focus was absolute, her fingers brushing over the cool, smooth surface of the glyphs. “It’s the only way, Kaelen. Valerius won’t stop. He’ll find me, and he’ll make sure I never get home, or worse, he’ll use me.” The memory of Valerius’s chillingly calm pronouncements, the casual cruelty in his eyes as he confessed to orchestrating her displacement, still sent shivers down her spine. He had played with her, a pawn in his endless game of control, and now he wanted to erase her.
