Valerius confesses he orchestrated Anya's displacement, intending to use her knowledge or eliminate her as a threat.
The cold, sterile air of Valerius’s private chamber did little to quell the simmering rage within Anya. His words, delivered with a chilling calm that belied the monstrous confession, echoed in the cavernous space. “Orchestrated,” he’d said. Not an accident, not a cosmic fluke, but a calculated act. “Displacement.” He’d plucked her from her reality like a weed from a garden, intending to… what? Use her? Silence her? The implications churned in her gut, a nauseating cocktail of betrayal and dawning comprehension.
“You brought me here,” Anya stated, her voice dangerously low, each syllable laced with ice. She stood across a polished obsidian desk from Valerius, the man who had, with a flick of his wrist, shattered her world. The chamber was opulent, far grander than anything she’d seen in this bleak city, yet it felt suffocating, a gilded cage. Holographic projections of star charts swirled lazily in the air, a stark contrast to the grim reality of their conversation.
Valerius leaned back in his chair, his face a mask of practiced serenity. His eyes, however, held a flicker of something predatory, something that confirmed Anya’s every fear. “Not ‘brought’ you, Detective. You were… *guided*. A necessary adjustment.”
