The air in the abandoned warehouse hung heavy and still, thick with the scent of dust, damp concrete, and something metallic, like old blood. Elara stood in the center of the vast, cavernous space, her breath catching in her throat. The harsh glare of a single, bare bulb overhead cast long, distorted shadows that danced like specters on the grimy walls. Liam stood a few feet away, his usual easy charm replaced by a hard, watchful intensity. The mask had slipped, and the man revealed was a stranger.

"You shouldn't have come here, Elara," he said, his voice a low rumble that lacked its usual warmth. It was a warning, laced with something colder, something that made the hairs on her arms prickle.

She clutched the worn leather journal tighter, its pages filled with the frantic scrawlings of a woman pushed to the brink. Her own words, her own observations, now seemed like a roadmap to this desolate place. The whispers she’d heard, the fleeting visions, the unsettling coincidences – they had all converged here, to this moment, to this man.
