Elara and Kael step through the door of light, only to be separated by a trial that offers each a way home. They resist the illusions and find their way back to each other, emerging in a quiet grove where a new path waits.
The door of light pulsed, its edges flickering like candle flame against the dark stone. Elara stared at it, her breath shallow. The key was still embedded in the mended shard above the pool, but the door—real, tangible, humming with warmth—felt like an answer she hadn't dared to expect.
Kael stepped beside her. “Do you think it leads home?”
She wanted to say yes. But she had learned not to trust easy answers. “The Veilwood said we had until the new moon to find our path. Maybe this is part of it.”
