The air in Nervel had turned thick, heavy with a dread that clung to the cobblestones like damp moss. It wasn't the usual, everyday anxiety of a bustling metropolis; this was something deeper, a primal fear that seeped from the very foundations of the city. The Weaver, whoever or whatever it was, had upped its game. The abstract manifestations, once sporadic disturbances, had coalesced into a singular, suffocating presence. And we, Kiko and I, were squarely in its sights.

"It's feeding," Kiko’s voice, usually cool and measured, held a tremor I hadn’t heard before. She stood beside me on the rooftop overlooking the Grand Plaza, her ink brush held loosely in her hand, its tip glowing with a faint, steady light. Below, the plaza, usually a vibrant hub of activity, was a scene of disarray. Ink-slicked streets, overturned market stalls, and the lingering, acrid scent of corrupted emotion.

I gripped my own brush, the familiar weight a small comfort. "Feeding on what this time? Panic? Despair?" My flame ink pulsed beneath my skin, a restless beast eager to be unleashed, but I held it back, a lesson learned the hard way.
