The air in the practice space, usually thick with the scent of stale beer and ambition, felt different tonight. It was softer, tinged with something akin to… hope? Lyric leaned against the grimy brick wall, the worn guitar strap of his dad’s old Stratocaster digging into his shoulder, a constant, heavy reminder of the legacy he was both embracing and trying to outrun. Across the room, bathed in the dim glow of a single bare bulb, Talia was carefully tuning her acoustic guitar. The soft strumming, a melody that danced between a sun-drenched plaza and a dimly lit cantina, was a stark contrast to the guttural roar of the amps that usually dominated this space.

“You know,” Lyric began, his voice a little rougher than he intended, “it’s weird. This room used to feel like a cage. Like I was just… performing my dad’s greatest hits, but with a different band.” He ran a hand through his perpetually messy hair, a nervous habit he’d picked up somewhere between his first arena gig and his first real existential crisis. “Now…” He gestured vaguely towards Talia, a small, almost shy smile touching his lips. “Now it feels like a place where I might actually build something new.”

Talia looked up, her dark eyes catching the light. A genuine smile spread across her face, crinkling the corners of her eyes. “And what kind of something new are we talking about, Lyric Blackwell?” Her voice was a playful lilt, a melody in itself.
