The air in Liam’s apartment was a comfortable silence, punctuated only by the soft murmur of the city below and the rhythmic beat of Anya’s breathing as she slept curled against his chest. Sunlight, hesitant at first, began to paint streaks across the plush rug, promising a new day. Liam lay awake, his arm a warm, heavy anchor around Anya’s waist, his gaze tracing the delicate curve of her cheekbone. It was a quiet sort of possessiveness, a gentle claiming that settled deep within his bones. He’d known her for weeks, yet it felt like an eternity, a lifetime of waiting for this very moment, for her to be here, safe within his embrace.
Anya stirred, a soft sigh escaping her lips. Her eyelids fluttered open, revealing eyes the color of warm honey, still heavy with sleep. She blinked, adjusting to the light, and then her gaze found Liam’s. A slow smile spread across her face, a sunrise mirroring the one outside.
“Morning,” she whispered, her voice a low, husky melody.
