Chapter 15
Chloe's Approval
Chloe witnesses Liam's genuine love and protective nature firsthand. Her initial wariness fades, replaced by support for Anya's choice and their burgeoning relationship.
Chloe watched Anya from across the bustling café, a small smile playing on her lips. Anya, usually so composed, was a whirlwind of nervous energy, her fingers tracing the rim of her teacup, her eyes darting towards the door every few moments. Chloe knew the cause of this delightful disarray, and it made her heart swell. Liam. He was late, of course, but then again, Liam was a man who operated on his own precise, unhurried schedule.
She remembered her first impressions of him, a formidable presence, a man who seemed to carry the weight of the world on his broad shoulders, his gaze always sharp, always assessing. There had been a primal possessiveness about him, a silent claim that had initially unsettled her, and Anya, too, had felt it, a subtle tremor of unease that had warred with the undeniable pull she felt towards him. Chloe, ever Anya’s staunch protector, had harbored a healthy dose of skepticism. Love, especially the all-consuming, fiercely devoted kind that Liam seemed to embody, could be a dangerous thing if it tipped into obsession.
But she’d seen the subtle shifts, the quiet moments. She’d seen Liam’s eyes soften when they landed on Anya, a tenderness that belied his formidable exterior. She’d witnessed his unwavering vigilance, the almost imperceptible way he’d ensured Anya’s path was clear, her safety paramount, even when she was unaware of the shadows he kept at bay. And then, there had been the incident, the one that had brought Liam’s protective instincts roaring to the surface, the one that had forced Anya to confront the depth of his feelings and the unwavering strength of his devotion.
