The air in the dimly lit jazz club was thick with the murmur of conversations and the sultry wail of a saxophone. Anya, nestled in a plush velvet booth with Chloe, felt a familiar sense of contentment. The music, a melancholic melody that spoke of unspoken desires, seemed to weave a spell around them. She’d been acutely aware of Liam’s presence all evening, a silent, steady anchor in the periphery of her vision.
