The air in the Whispering Woods was thick with a cloying sweetness, like overripe fruit left too long in the sun. It clung to Destiny’s throat, a promise of decay. Every rustle of unseen leaves, every snap of a twig underfoot, felt like a whisper directed solely at her, a secret she was meant to hear but couldn't quite decipher. She’d been walking for what felt like hours, though time here was a fluid, unreliable thing, much like the mist that coiled around the gnarled roots of the trees.

This was the Maze of Doubt, the Keeper had called it. A place where the paths shifted, where the very ground beneath her feet could betray her, and where the most dangerous monsters were the ones that wore the faces of her own insecurities. The Keeper had warned her, his voice a low rumble like stones grinding together, "The Maze does not seek to break your body, child. It seeks to shatter your will. Your deepest doubts, your most crippling fears – they will be given form here. Do not let them take root."

Destiny gripped the worn leather strap of her satchel, the only tangible link to the world she’d left behind. It was a world of mundane worries – overdue bills, awkward social interactions, the gnawing feeling of not being good enough. Here, those worries had teeth.
