The air thrummed with a discordant symphony, a low hum that vibrated not just in Destiny’s ears but in her very bones. It was the sound of two realities straining against each other, like a fabric stretched too thin, about to tear. She stood on a precipice, not of rock and earth, but of consciousness itself. Before her, the familiar, suffocating darkness of the nightmare realm bled into the sterile, ordinary grey of her bedroom. The door, that infernal portal, now pulsed with a malevolent light, its wood groaning as if in agony. This was it. The threshold.

She remembered the Keeper’s words, whispered like dying embers in the dimness of his forgotten library: “The barrier weakens. The Architect’s work is nearly undone. The shadows hunger for the light, and the light, once dimmed, can never truly be restored.” The Architect. Her. The dawning horror of that realization had settled upon her like a shroud in the previous days, each moment spent wrestling with the impossible truth that the nightmares weren’t just *happening* to her, they were *emanating* from her. Her deepest fears, her buried anxieties, her unacknowledged dreads had coalesced, given form and substance, and built this world of terror.

And now, it was trying to break free.
