The sun, a cheerful blob of butter melting on a cosmic piece of toast, spilled its golden goodness all over Elara’s prize-winning petunias. They were the kind of purple that made you want to wear a velvet hat and hum opera, and Elara, despite her current predicament, felt a tiny flutter of pride. “Look at them, darlings,” she chirped, gesturing with a hand that trembled just a smidge, “aren’t they just the most splendid things? Much like my necklace, you see, if it were made of petals and sunshine instead of… well, wood.”

Leo, who had been attempting to coax a ladybug onto his finger with the seriousness of a bomb disposal expert, perked up. “Was your necklace made of sunshine, Grandma?”

Maya, ever the pragmatist, rolled her eyes, but a tiny smile played on her lips. “Leo, Grandma’s stories are just that – stories. The necklace is made of wooden beads, remember? The ones that smell like old books and good intentions.”
