Elara’s fingers, gnarled like ancient roots, fumbled slightly with the new clasp. It wasn't the smooth, worn wood of the old necklace, but a shiny, silver thing that felt a little too cold against her skin. Still, as she fastened it around her neck, a familiar warmth spread through her chest, chasing away the last wisps of confusion that had clung to her like cobwebs. This new necklace, strung with beads of varying shapes and sizes – some polished and smooth, others rough and unadorned, all gathered from the remnants of their grand adventure – felt just as potent as the one that had mysteriously vanished. It was a circle, she thought, a perfect, continuous loop.

Leo, perched on the arm of her favorite armchair, bounced his leg with an energy that threatened to dislodge him. "So, Grandma," he chirped, his eyes wide with anticipation, "are these beads really magical? Will they make me fly?"

Elara chuckled, a sound like dry leaves rustling. "Oh, Leo, my dear boy. These beads hold a magic all their own. They don't make you fly, not in the way a bird does, anyway. But they can make you remember. And remembering," she tapped a particularly lopsided wooden bead with her thumb, "is a kind of flying, isn't it? Flying back to all the good times, all the silly times, all the times you felt loved."
