“Honestly, Elara,” Maya said, her voice a soft sigh that ruffled the lace curtains, “you’d think after all these years, you’d have a better system for keeping track of things. Especially the magical necklace.”
Elara, perched on the edge of her favorite armchair like a robin ready to take flight, waved a dismissive hand. “Systems, schmistems! Life’s too short for boring systems. Besides, this whole kerfuffle has been rather… invigorating, wouldn’t you say?” She winked at Leo, who was currently attempting to balance a teacup on his nose, a feat he’d been practicing since breakfast.
Leo, startled, wobbled precariously. “Invigorating? It’s been like a treasure hunt, Grandma! A really, really confusing treasure hunt.” He giggled, the teacup tumbling safely into his lap.
