Leo and Maya, their faces smudged with what looked suspiciously like jam and a hint of garden soil, finally caught their breath. They’d followed Elara’s whirlwind of a clue – “It’s where the sunshine tickles the sleepy snail!” – which had led them on a merry chase through the dew-kissed garden, under the rustling leaves of the old oak, and finally, to a sun-drenched patch of moss where a particularly slow-moving snail was indeed enjoying a rather luxurious sunbath.
“So,” Maya puffed, wiping a stray strand of hair from her forehead, “the necklace isn’t actually on the snail, is it?” She gave Leo a look that clearly said, ‘See? I told you Grandma’s stories were a little bit… out there.’
Leo, ever the optimist and a connoisseur of Elara’s fantastical tales, peered intently at the moss. “Well, maybe the snail is guarding it! Like a tiny, slimy dragon with a treasure hoard!” He nudged a plump, green leaf with his toe, as if expecting a cascade of sparkling gems to tumble out.
