The fluorescent hum of the library, the echoing laughter in the cafeteria, the sharp sting of Tiffany’s taunts – they all coalesced into a dull throb beneath my skin.

I traced the cool, smooth surface of a marble bench, the moonlight painting silver streaks across its weathered stone. Two years. Two years I’d been away, building a new life, carefully crafting the persona of Hallie Ford, the quiet, unassuming student.
