Chapter 19
The Price of Love
The fallout from Hallie's revelation creates chaos. Their burgeoning love is now a dangerous liability, threatening to ignite an all-out war between the rival families.
The air in the hallway crackled with an energy I’d never felt before, a potent mix of shock and fury. It was the aftermath, the terrifying quiet that descends after a storm has broken, but before the real damage is assessed. My heart hammered against my ribs, a frantic drumbeat against the sudden, deafening silence. Liam. My Liam. The boy who had haunted my nightmares and, in a twisted, terrifying way, had become the sun around which my fractured world had begun to orbit, was staring at me. My secret. The one I had guarded so fiercely, the one that had been my shield and my burden for so long, was out. It had spilled out of me, a torrent of desperate confession in the face of Liam’s accusation, a desperate attempt to salvage… something. But now, looking at the faces of the men who ruled our worlds, I knew I had only succeeded in detonating a bomb. The foundations of my carefully balanced life had crumbled, and I was standing in the rubble.
