The Trap is Set
Tiffany, desperate, orchestrates a plan to expose Hallie, hoping to win Liam's favor. Her actions inadvertently bring Hallie closer to revealing her true self.
The air in the cafeteria hung thick and heavy, a cloying blend of stale pizza and nervous energy. It was a familiar symphony of adolescent anxieties, but today, it felt amplified, the usual cacophony of clattering trays and boisterous laughter underscored by a discordant hum that seemed to emanate from a single table. Tiffany Moore. Her presence was a storm cloud, perpetually gathering and threatening to unleash its fury upon anyone who dared to occupy her perceived territory. And today, that territory included the small, unassuming table where I sat with Lexi, picking at a salad I had no appetite for.
“She’s looking,” Lexi murmured, her eyes flicking towards Tiffany’s table with a practiced weariness. “Just ignore her, Hallie. You know how she is.”
I knew. Everyone at Blackwood College knew. Tiffany Moore was a creature of habit, her habits revolving around me, Liam Blackwood, and the desperate, often pathetic, quest for his attention. She saw me as an obstacle, a pale imitation of the girl she believed Liam wanted, and her insecurity manifested in a thousand petty torments. Today, however, there was a new edge to her gaze, a glint of something sharper, more calculated. It was the look of a predator who had finally devised a plan.
