A Dangerous Alliance
Lexi, sensing Hallie's distress, offers unwavering support. Unbeknownst to her, her loyalty is tested as Hallie's secrets risk drawing Lexi into the dangerous mafia world.
The weight of it all pressed down on me, a suffocating blanket woven from lies and fear. Lexi’s voice, warm and steady, cut through the fog of my thoughts like a beacon. “Hallie, talk to me. What’s going on?”
I looked at her, my best friend, her brow furrowed with genuine concern, her eyes, pools of unwavering loyalty, searching mine. She saw the tremor in my hands, the forced smile that didn’t quite reach my eyes, the shadow that had settled over me like a shroud. She saw me, or at least, the version of me I allowed her to see. And that was the most terrifying part. Because the real me, Andrea, was a creature of a world she couldn't possibly comprehend, a world of shadows and blood that would shatter her innocence.
“It’s… it’s nothing, Lexi,” I managed, my voice a little too high, a little too strained. “Just a bad day. Tiffany, you know how she is.”
