The air in the penthouse, usually thick with the scent of expensive cigars and unspoken threats, now hummed with a different kind of tension. It was a charged atmosphere, electric and intoxicating, a stark contrast to the sterile obedience I’d grown accustomed to. Marco, my father’s shadow, was my warden, my guardian, and now, something far more dangerous. He moved through the opulent rooms with a quiet grace that belied the coiled power within him, his eyes, dark and deep as a midnight sea, rarely straying from me. But when they did, when they lingered, a flicker of something raw and untamed would ignite, a spark that mirrored the wildfire growing within my own veins.

Each day was a delicate dance. I’d push, prod, test the limits of his stoic facade. A lingering touch as I passed him a glass of water, a soft brush of my shoulder against his arm as I “accidentally” stumbled. His jaw would tighten, a muscle ticking beneath his skin, but he’d always pull back, his discipline a fortress I was determined to breach. He was a man carved from granite, unyielding, loyal to my father, and I, Isabella Moretti, was the storm that threatened to erode him.

“You’re restless tonight, Bella,” Marco’s voice, a low rumble, cut through the silence as I paced the length of the living room, the silk of my robe whispering against the marble floor. The city lights glittered below, a million tiny stars trapped in a concrete sky, a reflection of the life I yearned for, a life beyond these gilded bars.
