The air in the Obsidian Maw was thick, not with dust or smoke, but with an absence. It was a tangible void, a place where light itself seemed to falter, like a candle flame struggling against an unseen draft. Elara, her Pathfinder’s tunic a beacon of defiance against the encroaching darkness, pressed onward. Beside her, or rather, *around* her, Lumin pulsed, a shifting kaleidoscope of soft blues and greens that seemed to absorb the very gloom.

“It feels… wrong,” Elara whispered, her voice barely disturbing the oppressive silence. The luminous blocks beneath her feet, usually so vibrant and responsive, felt sluggish, their light muted, their edges indistinct. They were like tired old friends, dimmed by a long, cold night.

Lumin’s light coalesced into a gentle, swirling pattern, a visual sigh. *“Wrong is a human word, Elara. This is… a different kind of arrangement. An older one.”* Their voice, a chime of pure thought, echoed not in her ears, but directly in her mind.
