The morning light crept through the trees like a hesitant visitor, casting long shadows across the forest floor. Taye stood at the edge of the camp, his pack slung over one shoulder, his eyes fixed on the path that wound into the unknown ahead. Behind him, the remnants of the fire still smoldered, gray smoke curling into the pale sky like the last breaths of something dying.
