The air in the apartment was thick, heavy with the unspoken, a suffocating blanket woven from misunderstandings, and a growing chasm of silence. It had been days since the easy laughter had flowed since their shared glances held only warmth and affection. Now, each interaction felt like navigating a minefield, the ground shifting beneath their feet with every hesitant word. Krystal watched Aj from across the living room, a knot of anxiety tightening in her chest. He was staring out the window, his shoulders rigid, his profile etched with a familiar shadow that chilled her to the bone. She knew that look, the one that signaled his retreat, the one that whispered of a world she couldn’t reach.

The silence stretched, taut and unbearable. It was Krystal who finally broke it, her voice barely a whisper, a fragile thread in the charged atmosphere. "Aj?"

He didn't turn, but his jaw tightened. "Yeah?"
