Chapter 6
The Glow-worm's Light
As darkness deepens, a Glimmering Glow-worm appears. Her steady, warm light guides them through a tricky part of the path. She encourages Aria, reminding her that even small lights can make a big difference.
The air grew cooler as the last sliver of twilight painted the horizon in hues of lavender and rose. Aria, with Lumie nestled gently in her cupped hands, pressed onward. The path, which had been clear and soft underfoot, now began to twist and turn, disappearing into patches of deeper shadow. Lumie’s own faint glow seemed to dim a fraction more, a tiny, worried pulse against Aria’s palm. “Are you alright, Lumie?” Aria whispered, her voice barely disturbing the hush of the approaching night. Lumie gave a soft, almost imperceptible hum, a sound like the sigh of distant chimes.

It bobbed gently, like a tiny lantern carried by an unseen hand, and as Aria and Lumie drew closer, the source of the light revealed itself. It was a glow-worm, larger than any Aria had ever seen, her body a soft, segmented curve that radiated a comforting warmth. Her light was not a frantic sparkle, but a deep, unwavering glow, like embers that refuse to be extinguished.
“Hello there,” the glow-worm said, her voice as gentle and warm as her light. “You seem a little lost in the deepening dark.”
