Luna’s brow furrowed, not with frustration this time, but with a deep, thoughtful concentration that Leo rarely saw. She traced the worn patterns on the ancient rug, her finger following a swirling design that seemed to echo the very winds that had whispered through their home just hours before. “Grandma used to tell us stories,” she murmured, her voice barely a breath. “About the twin spirits. She said they protected this house, and that their power was strongest when the twins in the family… when they worked together.”

Leo, who had been pacing the room, his energy still buzzing from their frantic chase through the whispering woods, stopped and tilted his head. He’d heard his grandmother’s tales, of course, but they were just that – tales. Stories to lull them to sleep on long winter nights, not actual blueprints for life. “Together? Like, holding hands and singing a song?” he scoffed, a hint of his usual competitive edge creeping back into his tone. He remembered Flicker, the flash of green fur, the glint of the Sunstone in its tiny paws. Luna ignored his teasing, her gaze fixed on a framed tapestry hanging above the fireplace. It depicted two intertwined serpents, their scales shimmering with an almost iridescent light. “She said the Sunstone wasn’t just pretty,” Luna continued, her voice gaining a quiet intensity. “She said it held the warmth of a thousand sunrises, and that it kept the shadows at bay. And Flicker… Flicker wanted to steal it.” She looked at Leo, her eyes wide and earnest. “That’s why Flicker was so fast, Leo. It was trying to break the balance.”
