“Status report, Thorne,” Stevie’s voice was a low growl, barely audible over the gale. She adjusted the thermal scope, its green glow painting the desolate landscape with deadly precision.
“All systems nominal, America,” Thorne’s voice crackled through her comms, a steady anchor in the brewing storm. “The perimeter sweep is complete. Minimal thermal signatures, mostly automated drones. The ground team is in position, ready for insertion.”
